We are excited to announce that LoveFest – the signature annual health “edutainment” festival produced by the Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus – will take place this year on
Sunday, August 20th from 10am-9pm at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center (740 E. 56th Place, Chicago, IL, 60639)!
In addition to the traditional LoveFest, we will host a Health Summit and Poetry Slam on Saturday, August 19th in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health and
the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. The “Summit and Slam” will feature a panel discussion with community experts, fireside chats and a keynote address from
Dr. Maurice Brownlee (Wellness Homes of Chicago). Discussion themes for the Summit and Slam include mental health, substance awareness and community safety.
Since 2005, LoveFest has welcomed 300+ Black gay, bisexual and same gender loving men annually. In addition to a variety of entertainment
(e.g., a miniball, talent competition, drag review), the LoveFest Community Health Village offers a wide range of free health and wellness resources including
HIV/STI screening and linkage-to-care services. This year’s theme – HealthySexyYou! – will intentionally highlight the importance of mental, physical and spiritual wellness.
LoveFest 2023 will also incorporate messaging about the dangers of fentanyl within our community. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity
to be vaccinated against Mpox (monkeypox), which remains a threat to Black gay, bisexual and same gender loving men in Chicago.
PLUS, Project Vida (as part of the Mind, Body and Soul Health and Wellness Circle) will host the first ever
House Music & Move It 2k Run/Walk/Roll the morning of LoveFest (10am-12:30pm) in Washington Park, directly across the street from the
